Brentwood
Museum is housed in a picturesque 19th century
building once a sexton's cottage, and although
small it offers a fascinating insight into
Brentwood life in the early part of this
century, with an exciting collection of social

Overlooking
more than 52 acres of beautiful scenic woodland
the Ski & Snowboard Centre offers an exciting
variety of dry skiing and snowboarding to suit
all levels of ability - from complete novice to
some of the best racers in the country.

Ski & Snowboard School is one of the most
qualified and experienced in the UK, having been
established since 1974. Emphasis is placed on
Safety and Enjoyment with a great variety of

Hopefield Animal Sanctuary

Hopefield
Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit organisation
devoted to creating a better quality of life for
sick, unwanted and mistreated animals. There are
about 200 rescued animals at Hopefield at the
moment (mainly horses, ponies, donkeys, pigs,
sheep, cows and goats).

Ingatestone Hall

Open to the
public on certain days during
the summer, this 16th-century
building was built for Sir
William Petre in 1558 and was
visited by Elizabeth I in 1561.
One of the finest Tudor mansions
in the country and the seat of
the present Lord Petre, it is
built of red tudor brick with
leaded lights. The Gatehouse has
a unique clock face along with
the Petre family motto 'Sans
Dieu Rien'.

Old MacDonald's Farm

This
well tended show farm is home to a large
selection of native rare breed farm animals and
poultry. Children will love meeting the
Rabbits, Reindeer, Wallabies and hosts of other
animals as well as playing on the rides,
amusements and soft play areas. Picnic areas situated around the farm
so bring your own lunch or buy from the farm
cafeteria.

The Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker
Step
inside the door of this rural bungalow nestling
in the Essex countryside and discover the
twilight world of the Government Cold War.
Behind
the blast screens that protect this bungalow is
the entrance to an amazing labyrinth of rooms
built into a hillside, encased in 10 feet of
thick reinforced concrete and 100 feet
underground. This is where central government
and military commanders would have run the
country had the UK been attacked and nuclear war
broken out.

Thorndon Country Park
Thorndon
Country Park is divided into Thorndon Park
North, with the Countryside Centre, and Thorndon
Park South. The most important habitat in
Thorndon Country Park is the ancient deer park
area dating back to the 15th century which has
been designated a Site of Special Scientific
Interest. Other parts of the park include
ancient woodland, plantations of both broad
leaved and coniferous species, some grassland
and three small lakes. Fishing available if day
ticket purchased.

Weald Country
Park is located to the west of
Brentwood. At nearly 500 acres
it is the largest of the Essex
County Council Country Parks.
Parkland has been
established here for more than
700 years; the lakes, the
tree-lined avenues, and large
parkland trees are the result of
the landscaping carried out in
the 18th century. The
Ranger service at Weald Park and
Thorndon Park offers many
special activities throughout
the year. Activities for
children vary from investigating
flowers and insects to kite
making and Halloween walks. In
addition there are many
educational walks and tours for
family and adults on topics such
as natural history, fungi and
country park management.
